Molly's story

If you've ever owned a Chihuahua then you know that they are typically one or two owner sort of dogs. They bond to their selected person(s) and may tolerate random other people, but they will certainly not be friendly or social with aforementioned persons. That's Molly. She doesn't much like people. Having said that, she LOVES LOVES LOVES me (her foster mom) and she LOVES her foster dad. She allows basic handling by people whom she has been properly introduced to, but she does NOT like strangers - which is a HUGE problem when we consider a dog's adoptability. Now, Molly could technically live with me forever, but that means that my ability to save additional dogs is now diminished by one (and regardless of her small size she still takes up a foster spot). So... Molly, like all of my other foster dogs, needs to transition to a new family. A Chihuahua-savvy home would definitely be the best fit, but an adopter with a good working knowledge of dog behavior would also be considered. If you haven't moved on to another adoptable dog profile yet, here's the great stuff about Molly: she is 8lbs and a beautiful cream longhair. She doesn't fight you over basic grooming like combing, bathing, and minor trimming (sanitary, paw pads, grinch-toes) so if you are the DIY type then you can easily maintain her lovely locks at home. Molly is completely crate-trained and does well with house-training when kept to a schedule. She will be 6yo in June and has no health problems other than the typical 'toy mouth' that will require professional dental cleanings (she just had this done last month). Molly is dog social but much prefers human companionship and completely ignores our cats. She is not aggressive with strangers, but she is likely to remove herself from large groups of people. She took a good three weeks before she trusted us, but now she is a total cuddlebug. She just needs a mom/dad who is willing to invest a little time building a relationship with her :)
If you are interested in adopting, the adoption donation is $150 and covers full vetting (vaccinations, dewormings, spay/neuter, heartworm testing, etc) prior to adoption.

~~~Availability Inquiries: If the dog is still posted then he/she is available. We may have already accepted applications but have not chosen one yet. Please send yours if you'd like to be considered. A "pending" status means that the pet is spoken for, but the adoption has yet to be finalized. This pet may become available again if the adoption is not completed within a reasonable amount of time.
~~~Location: We do not have a physical location where all of our dogs are housed nor do we have 'business hours'. We are made up of a network of private foster homes and sometimes use boarding. Once we have received your application, we can provide you with details and arrange a 'meet and greet' when possible. We require an application before any meetings will be arranged, and it can be obtained by sending an e-mail to LaurensZoo@yahoo.com with both your name and the name (or breed) of the dog that you are interested in.
~~~Cats/Kids and Dogs: If we don't specifically mention cats/kids in the bio then we don't know exactly how a particular dog will react to them. If we suspect there will be aggression then we will say no to cats/kids. However, every dog needs to be introduced correctly to a house with cats or kids in it. Each dog and each cat/kid will have different chemistry together so there is no way to tell how they will act until the dog is in the home. Puppies less than one year of age can always go to a home with cats or kids, but they too need to learn. With a little effort, dogs and cats/kids can live together...but don't forget that dogs will be dogs so sometimes you will need to step in.
~~~Out-of-state Adoptions: We will consider adopting to all states, but transport options are limited to some areas. Adopters are responsible for all additional fees associated with transporting a pet out-of-state.
